About Rowena…
Rowena is one of two Assistant Directors for the Waikato Rivertones Chorus in Hamilton, New Zealand.
A tenor and trained Bel Canto coloratura through school, Rowena started singing pop / rock and jazz bass with the Affirmation Band through her university years, singing at private and corporate functions.
She started singing barbershop in 2015 with Sweet Adelines chorus Waikato Rivertones in Hamilton, and joined BHNZ in 2020 to sing in a mixed quartet with her brother, Nathan.
By 2022, Rowena’s work was sung for the first time on the international stage by Starlettes Chorus (a chorus comprised of previous Rising Star quartet champions) just prior to the International chorus finals announcements.
In 2023 she was awarded the Lou Perry Arranging Scholarship to attend Harmony University.
In 2024 Rowena became an Approved Music Arranger through Sweet Adelines International, became a member of SANZ faculty, and became a candidate in the Australiasian Barbershop Guild of Judges in the Musicality category.
By 2025 her contest arrangements had been sung in all three major barbershop organisations (SAI, BHS, HI), and on the contest stage in multiple countries. She also completed the Debra Lynn Bel Canto Certification Programme to be able to formally help others with their singing.
